Exklusive Seminar by MedBase Fit im Job
In April 2023, leaders gathered at Marbach Castle on Lake Constance for the Medbase “Fit at Work” seminar. In an inspiring atmosphere, they exchanged insights on corporate health management. Under the guidance of Managing Director Patrick Stäuble, the program included presentations, group work, fitness checks, and mindfulness training. The seminar provided practical insights for establishing healthier habits in the workplace.
Corporate Health Management as a Key Focus
Twenty-three leaders from various industries came together to optimize health management for themselves and their companies. After an introductory round and an overview of the seminar topics, there was a presentation on motivation and implementing new, healthier habits into daily life. The seminar room’s parliamentary seating arrangement provided ample space for group work, which was also on the agenda for these two days.
The lunch at the castle restaurant was served specially without carbohydrates, tailored to the needs of the event. A lunch rich in protein and raw-food keeps you full longer and helps prevent afternoon fatigue at work. After the lunch break, participants underwent a fitness check-up, where their pulse rates were analyzed to enable training for optimal lipid metabolism. The session also covered the biochemical process and how to fit exercise into a busy daily routine. Given that the average screen time is around three hours, it’s worth considering whether to invest one of those hours in exercise, which benefits our health, sleep, and overall well-being.
At the end of this day’s seminar, participants had the opportunity to spend time on activities they enjoyed. Options included relaxing yoga, a refreshing jogging session and a calming walk in the woods. Each of these activities provided a chance for participants to unwind, recharge, and conclude the seminar in a personal and restorative way. In the evening, a cozy, carbohydrate-rich dinner was served in the boathouse right by the lake. In a relaxed atmosphere, participants enjoyed nutritious dishes while gazing out over the water. Carbohydrates in the evening not only aid digestion but also contribute to a restful sleep, which all participants confirmed the next morning.
From Fitness Checks to Mindfulness: Practical Insights for the Workday
The second day of the seminar began with an early lipid metabolism training session in our fitness room, where a lactate measurement was conducted. The lactate value is particularly useful, as it is considered the most accurate indicator in professional sports. Lactate is a metabolic byproduct produced during muscle activity. The more intensely the body is exerted, the more lactate accumulates in the blood. If certain lactate thresholds in the muscles and blood are exceeded, the body can no longer process the excess lactate. This leads to muscle acidosis, which the body can temporarily compensate for, but eventually results in decreased performance and the need to stop the activity.
After this intense endurance test and a subsequent regional breakfast, the participants were divided into two groups for an engaging exchange of experiences on the topic of “Corporate Health Management.” What is already offered in their companies? What are the participants’ wishes? Where are the challenges in implementation? By the end of this session, it was clear to everyone: We can learn a lot from each other and be inspired by successful approaches already implemented in other companies.
After another nourishing and delicious lunch, nutrition expert Kerstin Linkner concluded the day with insightful inputs on healthy eating and its integration into a busy workday. The focus was clearly on consuming unprocessed foods that provide us with more energy and higher performance than processed or chemically altered foods, which can cause harm over time. Awareness of blood sugar levels when consuming sugary foods also plays a crucial role.
Overall, the entire seminar was a great success for all participants. It helped them become more aware of their physical energy needs, refocus on personal goals amidst the daily hustle, and shift priorities. The entire “Fit im Job” team provided inspiring support and demonstrated that fitness and nutrition don’t have to be a burden but can be joyfully integrated into everyday life.
