Preparation and Introduction to the Leadership 4 Future Program
Preparing leaders for the challenges of our time is a complex development process that often begins well in advance. This is also true for the “Leadership 4 Future” workshop. Before the workshop starts, individual conversations with each participant are conducted to discuss their leadership backgrounds, current challenges, and expectations. The learning journey begins in a serene setting with access to nature at Marbach Castle. During this journey, various innovation methods are practiced, enabling the group to collectively sense and shape the future. On the first day, participants meet in a conference room with direct access to the park, allowing them to step outside anytime, focus on their intentions, and direct their attention to what lies ahead.
During the first days of the event, the focus is on shared experiences. Participants have the opportunity to discuss their personal and professional backgrounds while spending ample time in the picturesque park surrounded by nature. A key part of this experience is the “Dialogue Walking” method, where participants learn to actively listen and engage in creative dialogue, all within a natural setting. Back in the room, participants have time to document their experiences. The conference room is transformed into a “World Café,” with a cozy seating arrangement that encourages deep thinking and reflection.
After dinner, the group reconvenes in the conference room to watch a film together. Chairs, bean bags, sofas, armchairs, and small café tables are set up for the movie night, with popcorn and soft drinks ready for the attendees. Each morning, participants gather in the conference room before breakfast to begin the day with a mindfulness exercise led by an experienced trainer. Participants sit barefoot on their chairs, embarking on a journey of relaxation. For the Marbach Castle team, this means dimming the lights, ensuring the floor is freshly cleaned, and adjusting the room temperature.
Feeling and Discovering Creative Depth
The third day focuses on feeling. The newly learned skills of creative listening and active dialogue are deepened, and the sense of feeling is activated. Various tools are used during this phase, including the Case Clinic. A case or problem is examined from multiple perspectives, utilizing emotions, gestures, and metaphors. For this exercise, participants gather in a quiet place, which could be outdoors, in the conference room, a bar, or even the boathouse. The location is chosen spontaneously and intuitively. Experienced event organizers are crucial in setting up the space optimally and quickly.
The theme of “feeling” also accompanies the participants in the evening. After a cozy dinner, the group gathers at the boathouse. The trainers introduce the “storytelling” method. One participant (the storyteller) shares a story with the group, while the other participants listen creatively and empathize with the storyteller. The service staff explains the process and then steps back, allowing the group to remain undisturbed.
Next in the program is “The Power of Intention.” Participants focus on two fundamental questions: What is my highest future potential? What is my purpose? To explore these questions without distraction, participants embark on a solo journey, a fitting activity given the rural setting of Marbach Castle. Upon their return, they record their insights in a personal journal. The duration of the solo journey and the participants’ return time are unknown to the conference organizers, allowing for flexible coffee breaks and adjusted meal times.
In the afternoon, the focus shifts to building future prototypes. Each participant creates their own prototype, which are then combined into collective prototype runways. This method, inspired by Design Thinking, integrates principles of sensing the highest future potential. The co-creation phase started at Marbach Castle and continues at home, with participants further developing their prototypes. In summary, Marbach Castle on Lake Constance, with its inspiring setting and excellent facilities, is an ideal location for leadership and team development. It is the perfect place to generate new ideas and solutions while also relaxing and rejuvenating in nature.
