By car – using a navigation system

At the »street« prompt, enter simply »Marbach«. If prompted to select a street enter »Hauptstrasse«. The postcode is 78337; the town is called »Öhningen«. Marbach Castle is situated between Gaienhofen (Hemmenhofen district) and Öhningen (Wangen district).

By car – from Frankfurt (220 miles); from Stuttgart (110 miles)

Take the A81 towards of Singen. At the Hegau intersection turn off for Konstanz/Radolfzell (B33), then take the Singen/Steisslingen/Moos exit. Follow signs to Moos. After driving through Moos, Iznang, Horn, Gaienhofen and Hemmenhofen you will reach Marbach Castle on the right side of the road about half a mile after passing the boundary sign as you leave Hemmenhofen.

By car – from Munich (175 miles)

Take the A8 towards Ulm, then turn onto the B30 through Biberach and Ravensburg to Meersburg. From Meersburg, the car ferry will take you to Konstanz. From Konstanz keep following signs for Singen until you reach Radolfzell (B33) exit. From Radolfzell follow signs for Stein am Rhein (CH). After driving through Moos, Iznang, Horn, Gaienhofen and Hemmenhofen you will reach Marbach Castle on the left side of the road about half a mile after passing the boundary sign as you leave Hemmenhofen.

By car – from Zurich, via Andelfingen (44 miles)

Take the A1 towards Winterthur, exiting at the Schaffhausen/Henggart turn-off, and then following the A4 to the Kleinandelfingen/Stein am Rhein/Ossingen exit. After passing through Ossingen, Waltalingen, Etzwilen and Kaltenbach you will arrive in Stein am Rhein. As you enter Stein am Rhein, follow signs for Öhningn (D). After crossing the Rhine, first follow signs marked »Transit« and then follow signs to Radolfzell (D). After crossing the border into Germany, continue through Öhningen and Wangen. Marbach Castle is situated to the right of the road, half a mile after passing the boundary sign as you leave Wangen.

By car – from Zurich, via Frauenfeld (47 miles)

Take the A1 towards St. Gallen/Winterthur-Ohringen, switching to the A7 Konstanz/Kreuzlingen/Frauenfeld. Continue on the A7 till the Frauenfeld-West turn-off. On leaving the motorway, turn left at the first stop sign, proceeding under the motorway, and then straight across the roundabout to Stein am Rhein. Your route to Stein am Rhein will take you through Weiningen, Herdern and Eschenz. As you enter Stein am Rhein, turn right, following signs for Öhningen (D). After crossing the Rhine, first, follow signs marked »Transit« and then follow signs to Radolfzell (D). After crossing the border into Germany, continue through Öhningen and Wangen. Marbach Castle is situated to the right of the road, half a mile after passing the boundary sign as you leave Wangen.

By train

The nearest German railway station is Radolfzell, which is 10 miles from Marbach Castle. There are InterRegio train connections to Radolfzell via Frankfurt and Heidelberg as well as EC/IC/ICE train connections with changes in Mannheim (ICE) and Offenburg.

The nearest Swiss railway station is Stein am Rhein (5 miles from Marbach Castle). Stein am Rhein has rail connections to Schaffhausen, Winterthur, Zurich and Zurich-Kloten International Airport.
